[영국의 소공상인] Has your small business benefitted from the lockdown?

 

Are there any lucky exceptions to the downturn caused by Covid? 

 

I can't really think of any case off the top of my head, with the exception of food delivery services like Uber Eats, Just eat or Deliveroo. These are like Coupang eat or 배달의 민족 in Korea. 

 

From the news, the dual impact of Covid and Brexit have meant that many small businesses have had a rough year. Businesses will likely continue to experience turbulent times in the near future.

Some shops that I used to visit (frequent) are temporarily or permanently closed. 

It's heartbreaking to be honest --> This is a absolutely heartbreaking.

Even big commercial chains like Leon and Le Pain were forced to cease operations at some locations after the first lockdown. 

 

A cafe in my neighbourhood opened just before the pandamic.

Looking at this cafe makes me painful as I can see the frustration of the owner --> It hurts me to see the owner's frustrations. Eventually, the cafe has been temporarily closed. 

 

However, there have been some lucky businesses during the dark time. 

Who are they? How have they gotten benefits from this miserable lockdown?

Obviously, Amazon, Ebay, some restaurants, homeware brands.. they have been kept their profits.

Also, a home-run business is rapidly booming on Instagram and Ticktok. 

 

Some small brands are growing so fast with the hashtag movement of "support local" and "shop small".

People in the UK started to buy products from small business owner even though it's a bit higher price than massproduced item from big brands. 

 

Consumers who want to support talented and potential brands actively purchase items on online.

It can be seen that small brands and customers can build own community under the phrase called "support local".

In other words, shopping small can be also built a more personal connection between consumers and brand owners. 

Hand-writing thank you card can be more precious customer experience to deliver brand story. 

 

I guess, it's kind of ethical consumption. 

Becuase you know that your consumption can contribute someone's brand mission. 

 

Another perk of shopping small. 

Consumer can easily find eclectic one-of-a-kind items.

I love buying handcrafted items from small brands. 

It gives me special feelings and a sense of satisfaction. 

Probably, I know where the product came from and who made it with certain brand stroy. 

Not even for craft items, the shops small gives me the comfort of knowing where the foods and other products come from:)
